Advantages of sodium-ion battery

Compared with lithium batteries, industrialized sodium-ion batteries have obvious cost advantages. In addition, sodium-ion batteries have better safety performance, high and low temperature performance, and rate performance, and are more compatible with the energy storage environment. It can maintain a capacity of 90% at -20°C, which means that compared with lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries can effectively solve the problem of low efficiency of energy storage power stations in high-cold areas.

Combined with the distribution of wind power in my country, my country's wind power projects are mainly distributed in Northeast China, North China, Northwest China, eastern coastal provinces and Yunnan, and the lowest temperature in winter in these areas is mostly below -20°C. The relevant energy storage system equipped with sodium-ion batteries will be more suitable for the local natural environment.

The main advantages of sodium-ion batteries in energy storage applications:

Rich resources and low cost: Sodium resources are widely distributed in the earth's crust and have abundant reserves, which is 423 times that of lithium resources. The raw material cost of sodium-ion batteries is low, and compared with lithium-ion batteries, it has significant economic advantages, which is particularly important for energy storage systems that require a large number of battery cells.

Long cycle life: Sodium-ion batteries have good cycle stability and can maintain high capacity and performance after multiple charge and discharge cycles, effectively reducing the maintenance cost of energy storage systems and meeting the requirements of long-term stable operation.

High safety: Sodium-ion batteries show high safety under extreme conditions such as high temperature, overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit, and extrusion, avoiding the risk of fire and explosion, and are absolutely safe for long-term transportation without damaging battery performance, suitable for large-scale energy storage system applications.

Strong adaptability: Sodium-ion batteries are stable under different temperature and environmental conditions and have good low-temperature performance: the capacity retention rate at -20°C is 90%, and the capacity retention rate at -40°C is 85%, which can adapt to the harsh working environment and scenarios in extremely cold areas.

Excellent rate characteristics: Sodium-ion batteries have a high charge and discharge rate: fast charging can reach 80% of the power in 15 minutes, and the 5C discharge capacity retention rate is 95.5%, which is suitable for scenarios with high requirements for high power output and fast response, such as grid frequency regulation and peak load management.

Environmentally friendly: Sodium-ion batteries have little impact on the environment during manufacturing and recycling. In addition, sodium itself is non-toxic, which conforms to the concept of green environmental protection and helps achieve sustainable development.
